The Sea of Cortez
The expedition lives on a tiny sun-baked desert island and explores the plants and animals that live in, on, or by the Sea of Cortez.
Rasa island houses one of the world's most impressive sea-bird cities: it's the headquarters of the rare and graceful Heermann's gull. Finback whales plough up and down the coastline sieving plankton from the ocean where feather-duster worms, octopuses, and a myriad of other creatures make their living. The complex food chains are fascinatingly unravelled: see the falcon that killed the gull that ate the lizard, that caught the fly that fed off the fish caught by the skill of the osprey.
Producer JEFFERY boswall BBC Bristol

with Johnny Ball
This week Johnny looks at the tun behind the facts about cutting edges. He says 'hello operator' with a scalpel and 'mind your head' with a guillotine. Sharpness, from a laser that makes light work to tools for cutting wood - up and down.
So stay sharp and look out for swords and scalpels, planes and pruners, or you could have a close shave - it might even razor laugh.

A trilogy of films about the Jews of the United States, presented by Desmond Wilcox.

A millionaire pornographer who was born in the heart of the Jewish district of Brooklyn and a religious fanatic who used to be a reporter on Nationwide - just two of the characters in this week's journey through America's Jewish community.

Vidal Sassoon, now known for his Jewish philanthropy, talks about his Petticoat Lane upbringing from the comfort of his Bel Air estate. But why did he take his children to Dachau? Elliot Gould, Ed Asner and Paul Michael Glaser talk about Jews and show business and the climax is a Californian 'Briss' - a ritual circumcision which Jews have performed since the time of Abraham; although Rabbi Lebowitz's telephone bleeper is a recent development.
