The Lawn Tennis Championships
The opening day of the world's greatest tennis tournament direct from the All England Club. Featuring the first round of The Men's Singles championship.
JIMMY CONNORS , as defending champion, has the honour of opening play on the Centre Court. Since his first Wimbledon title in 1974 Connors has compiled a remarkable record in the tournament, reaching the final three times and the semi-finals three times; but last year's triumph over JOHN MCENROE was only his second win. McEnroe comes to Wimbledon after one of his least successful years but recent victories over the Czech IVAN LENDL have boosted his belief that he, too, can win a second title. Lendl has not enjoyed the grass courts of Wimbledon in past visits but is determined to prove that his ranking as the world's number one is justified.
They are just three of the 128 contenders for the most prestigious title in tennis. Harry Car penter introduces BBC's live coverage during the championships and keeps you up to date with news and results from all 18 match courts.
Bjorn Borg , five times winner of the championship, joins the BBC team throughout the fortnight with his expert views and opinions on play.

Flamingo City
Live from the south of France. BBC outside broadcast cameras lie in wait in the saltwater lagoons of the Camargue, ready to catch the spectacular evening flight of the pink flamingo.
This is the only regular flamingo breeding colony in Europe. Twenty years ago they stopped nesting: last year there were 10,000 pairs. A remarkable story of conservation. Tony Soper and Roger Lovegrove are spending a week in this hot, y marshy bird paradise where the River Rhone runs into, the Mediterranean.

Life After Debt
The world is awash with debt. Developing countries owe bankers in London and New York hundreds of billions which they can't pay back. Even finding cash to pay the interest often means harsh austerity for their people.
But the largest debtors have a weapon the bankers dread. They could choose to default, and trigger off a banking collapse which would undermine hopes of an economic recovery.
Anthony Sampson , known worldwide for his reporting behind the closed doors of international institutions, shows how close to catastrophe we have been, and analyses the growing threat from the debtors' weapon.

You can work out your odds on having a heart attack. As in any race, nothing is guaranteed. Even rank outsiders sometimes finish first, and in Britain we start with a lot of form, (one in four of us will die of heart disease). This plague will only be stemmed by improving the odds for the whole nation.
