A Higher Form of Killing
On 22 April 1915, the Germans launched the first gas attack against the allies at Ypres. It was, said its inventor, a higher form of killing'. By 1918 it had claimed the lives of 100,000 men. Sixty years later the world has developed nerve gases many thousand times more powerful. The Russians and the Americans have enormous stockpiles - and the British Government is currently considering whether we too should go back into chemical warfare.
Tonight Jeremy Paxman investigates the continued development of one of the most feared of all weapons.

starring
Susannah York , Trevor Howard
Loosely based on a true 19th-century story, this lively movie follows the adventures of Eliza and her husband as they leave for England from the penal colony of Sydney. Shipwrecked, they survive with some of the crew, but mutiny and murder ensue. Eventually the Frasers escape but are caught by a tribe of hostile Aborigines. Eliza is rescued and, back in England, makes her fortune on stage -recounting her amorous and other intrigues.

The fifth of ten films presenting a personal view of the European countryside.
Rain in Spain ...
... stays mainly on the plain in Andalusia, but on the Cabo de Gata hurricanes hardly ever happen-until David Bellamy arrives! Protected by a large umbrella he explores the desert bad-lands of south-east Spain. In contrast the Cota-Donana, to the west, is a wonderland of wet marismas supporting many beautiful plants and animals.
