The Lama Govinda is a German by birth, an archaeologist by training, whose interest in Buddhism was already mature before he studied it in Ceylon, Burma, and finally Tibet. He became Lama in the Kargyutpa order of meditative monks. He now resides in India.

Father, Mother, their small son, and old Uncle spend a wet and windy holiday in a beach chalet. When they begin to find Uncle undesirable company for the six-year-old child and forbid him the boy's company, Uncle execute* one final deed of desperate revenge.
