The Rev. H. F. D. Sparks speaks about a collection of essays by a number of American and European scholars that was published recently under the title The
Scrolls and the New Testament Professor Sparks urges caution in speculating about the alleged Essene origins of the Scrolls so far examined. Finding parallels between Christian and non-Christian documentary sources is a method long familiar to Biblical scholars, Its use in this case is likely to prove of immense value to the exegetist.
The speaker is Oriel Professor of the Interpretation of Holy Scripture in the University of Oxford.
