Patriotism-1
Look what we stand on, the bone-rich soil of England
It has thrust us together, it is stronger than we
In it our separate sorrows are a single hope
Third of four lectures by Bomamy Dobrée
Professor of English Literature in the University of Leeds
By permission of the Master and Council of Trinity College, Professor Dobree is broadcasting a shortened version of four of the Clark Lectures for 1953 recently delivered in Cambridge. In the lectures he illustrates his thesis of the development of certain ' great impersonal themes ' in English poetry by tracing the course of two of them: stoicism and patriotism.

A talk by E. A. Payne, General Secretary of the Baptist Union
Since 1732 twenty-one elected laymen of the London congregations of three dissenting bodies (Presbyterians, Congregationalism, and Baptists) have worked to protect the civil right of Protestant dissenters. Before his death in 1941 Bernard Lord Manning edited the very full minutes of their meetings and prepared a manuscript on the history of these Dissenting Deputies. This work has recently been published, edited by Ormerod Greenwood. In his talk Dr. Payne reviews the book and speaks of the work of the Deputies.
