Talk by L. P. Kirwan , Director of the Royal Geographical Society
In 1919 Sir Halford Mackinder published a book, Democratic Ideals and Reality. He put forward the view that peoples occupying the heartland of Euro-Asia must inevitably, for geographical reasons, exert pressure on the peoples lying round the margin of the heartland. Mr. Kirwan examines this theory and its implications.
