The new Third Programme transmitter at Daventry comes into service
From today onwards the Third Programme on 464 metres will be broadcast by a new transmitter at Daventry. The power is being increased almost three-fold to 150 kilowatts, the maximum permitted under the Copenhagen Wavelength Plan, and a new aerial, designed to give as large a fading-free service area as possible, has been erected. The transmitter and the new aerial have several features of technical interest which are described in this programme.

Talk by L.P. Kirwan, Director of the Royal Geographical Society

In 1919 Sir Halford Mackinder published a book, Democratic Ideals and Reality. He put forward the view that peoples occupying the heartland of Euro-Asia must inevitably, for geographical reasons, exert pressure on the peoples lying round the margin of the heartland. Mr. Kirwan examines this theory and its implications.
