The Concerto da Camera for flute, cor anglais, and strings is one of Honegger's most recent works, written in 1948 and dedicated to Mrs. Elisabeth Sprague Coolidge. It was first performed in this country at a concert in Chelsea Town Hall on March 20 by the artists who are playing it tonight. The first movement. Allegretto amabile, is built out of three ideas: the opening phrase for divided strings and two themes announced by the cor anglais and flute respectively. The
Andante is a set of free variations on two themes, one given out by the strings and the other by the flute. The Finale is a sparkling Vivace in iig rhythm.
