Henry Irving died on October 13, 1905, at the end of a performance of Tennyson's ' Becket.' Philip Carr's father was a close friend and associate of living, and in this way Mr. Carr was able to study Irving's work from both sides of the footlights at the Lyceum, and to know something of the man himself in private life
