Biochemistry is concerned with the chemical structure and reactions of living cells and with their integration to form living organisms. It therefore has direct contacts with pure chemistry on the one hand and with physiology on the other. The significance of biochemical research upon vitamins in nutrition and upon insulin in diabetes is well known: less generally understood are the more fundamental researches that form the basis of its application in medicine and industry
