A programme of West Country activities and ideas
The ' Ebb and Flow ' series started last year on October 25, and has included various short talks on matters of topical interest to the West Country.
Among those who have taken part have been the Master and the Prior of the Sherborne Almshouse, on the occasion of its centenary; the King's Harbour Master from Plymouth ; Sir Archibald Langman , High Sheriff of Somerset, who spoke on the Berlin Dairy Congress ; F. G. Thomas who gave a talk on the new library at the University of the South West; and Anton Dolin on ' The English Girl as a Ballet Dancer '.
The broadcast today will include an account of the historic fair at Axbridge in Somerset, which has existed for hundreds of years in this town. Axbridge used to be an important port. and contained the royal hunting-box for this part of the world. The fair-ground is let by the Corporation, and the proceeds pay for the light and water rates for the town.
