William H. Paynter was made a Bard of the Cornish Gorsedd in 1930 in recognition of his investigation of the subject of witchcraft and the supernatural in Cornwall. His bardic name, ' Whyler Pystry ', means ' Searcher-out of Witchcraft '. He has taken part in seven programmes in the West of England dealing with witches and ghost stories, and has acted also as a commentator.
