Commander J. M. Scott , R.N.
When Commander Scott recently took up his appointment as King's Harbour Master, Plymouth, he came on a number of notebooks and diaries belonging to a predecessor. On examining these he discovered that they contained all details of arrivals and departures at the port of Plymouth during the Napoleonic wars, and included particulars of French men-of-war captured in naval engagements from 1796 to 1816. It is of these discoveries that he is going to speak tonight. It is interesting that the last insertion in this batch of notebooks was the significant one ' 25 April 1823-Comet, Steam Vessel. Arrived'.
