A dramatic programme by G. P. Ambrose and T. Rowland Hughes
Based upon incidents during the Rebecca Riots in Wales
During 1840 to 1843 the rural districts of Wales were terrorised by bodies of men disguised in women's clothes. They met at night with blackened faces, and galloped on horse-back to smash and burn the turnpike gates which were a burden on the people. Their leader was known as Rebecca, and they called themselves ' the daughters of Rebecca '. Such incidents in Glamorgan in 1843 form the background to the story told in this dramatic programme.
