10—‘ Becca '
' Becca ' was an anonymous maker of Modern Wales, but was none the Itss important for that. His (or her) influence on the countryside was very powerful.
In the summer of 1839 one of the most remarkable movements in the history of Wales began in the borderland between Carmarthenshire and Pembrokeshire. The distress of the peasants of Wales found expression in attacks on the toll gates, many of which were destroyed. Their success induced the rioters to try to remedy. the other evils from which they suffered, and their movement culminated in tragedy.
But ‘ Becca's ' work was not in vain, for this rising helped to make their lot much easier.
In this dramatic interlude the scenes will be as follows: Whitland, June, 1839 ; Carmarthen, June, 1843 ; and Hendy, Pontardulais, September, 1843.

Cardiff For several years Idris Thomas was engaged in. the world of insurance, while at the same time he used to play the organ at Gellygaer Church. Before this he was deputy organist at Gilfach, Bargoed. Early in 1936 he was invited to play at the Empire Theatre during a guest week, a special feature in which three organists took part, each playing two nights. After this he was asked to play in a celebrity concert in which Paul Roheson appeared, and a little later he was appointed to his present post.
