The Wild Geese in the Service of Austria by CHRISTOPHER DUFFY
Lecturer in Military History at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst
The Irish soldiers of fortune who fought for France are well known. What is not so well known is that Wild Geese appear widely elsewhere—even as far afield as the Imperial Chinese Navy. Dr. Duffy has made a special study of those who took service with Austria; in particular, Feldmarschall-Lieutenant Maximilian Ulysses Reichsgraf von Browne. who was perhaps the greatest of them.
