PROFESSOR JACQUES MONOD Nobel Laureate of the Institut Pasteur in Paris talks to GERALD LEACH
When in 1965 a Nobel prize was awarded jointly to Andre Lwolf, Jacques Monod, and Francois Jacob, it ended a thirty-year period during which no French scientist had won a Nobel prize. The award was for work at a very basic, even molecular, level on the genetic mechanisms controlling protein and virus synthesis - the so-called gene regulating genes.
Professor Monod's conversation with Gerald Leach is partly scientific, partly philosophical, partly plain biographical - it is, in fact... a conversation.
