Jack Overhill recalls his childhood and youth in the Cambridge of fifty years ago The speaker, whose father was a shoemaker-a Snob in the local vernacular — was brought up under conditions of extreme poverty in a Cambridge far removed from the dignified university town we more often hear about. He survived not only the poverty but also a broken home and a nervous breakdown to become an author. lecturer in economics, and champion swimmer.
