Until the First World War rural life in Great Britain had altered very little since the early Middle Ages. In this programme old countrymen from East Anglia-farm workers and their wives, farmers, tradesmen, and others-recall a way of living and working and an attitude to life which disappeared with the coming of the internal combustion engine.
