Anthem, O Thou, the central orb (C. Wood)
O thou the central orb of righteous love.
Pure beam of the most high eternal light
Of this our wintry world, thy radiance bright.
Awakes new joy in faith, hope soars above.
Come, quickly come, and let thy glory shine,
Gilding our darksome heaven with rays divine;
Thy saints with holy lustre round thee move.
As stars about thy throne, set in the height
Of God's ordaining counsel. as thy sight
Gives measured grace to each, thy power to prove.
Let thy bright beams disperse the gloom of sin.
Our nature all shall feel eternal day,
In fellowship with thee, transforming day
To souls erewhile unclean, now pure within.

Don Pasquale is the tale of an old man, a wealthy bachelor who, with the delightful impetuosity of characters in Italian opera, has become possessed of a desire to marry. It is evidently the idea of marriage in the abstract that has attracted him. From the heedless way in which he accepts his fate, it appears to be immaterial whom he marries.
Like all self-centred materialists he wants to exclude others from happiness similar to his own, and when his nephew Ernesto (tenor) tries to marry Norina (soprano) he is furious. Ernesto ' expects' financially from the old man's will. Hence his quandary. It is significant that the person who arranges the mock marriage betweei old Pasquale (bass) and Norina, disguised as a young girl straight from the convent (she is In reality a lively widow), is Malatesta the doctor.
Finally, owing to the intervention of Malatesta, Pasquale agrees to the marriage of Norina and Ernesto.

'Ruth'
Cast
Production by Val Gielgud
This is the first of a series of dramatised stories from the Bible. There is no need to look far for first-rate Bible stories, and in those of Ruth, Elijah, and Daniel—the first three of the series—listeners should not be disappointed.
The story of Ruth, while stressing as its moral the reward of devotion, hat a peculiar charm that has never failed to catch the imagination of those who read it.
