C. H. Middleton
Listeners who have a lawn, whether a young one not growing up properly or an old one on the downhill grade, are always glad when C. H. Middle ton brings A. E. Burgess back to the microphone to give them advice. Middleton asks just the kind of questions that puzzle amateur gardeners, and Burgess always has an answer. This is not surprising seeing that he is Horticultural Superintendent to the Surrey County Council and their lawn expert. Today he is to speak on the maintenance of lawns, rather than on making new ones.

Led by Laurance Turner
Conducted by Warwick Braithwaite
Arnold Matters (baritone)
Australia and New Zealand have produced many fine musicians, particularly singers, who have won international fame. Both countries are represented in this evening's performance. The conductor, Warwick Braithwaite, comes from New Zealand. He studied under Harry Farjeon and Frederick Corder at the Royal Academy of Music, where he was a Goring Thomas Composition Scholar. Later, he went to Munich and studied conducting and composition at the Academy there. On his return to England, Mr. Braithwaite joined the O'Mara Opera Company as chorus-master, and since that time he has gained a high place among contemporary British conductors. He is best known now as one of the permanent conductors at Sadler's Wells.
Australian Singer
Arnold Matters, also one of the leading members of the Sadler's Wells company, comes from Australia. He was born in.Adelaide, and as a boy won several prizes in competition festivals, which made him decide to take up singing as a career. He soon won for himself a foremost place among Australian singers, and in addition to a great deal of solo and quartet work, he appeared with several leading artists, including Melba. He has many times appeared before the microphone of the Australian Broadcasting Commission. In 1930 Mr. Matters came to England and since then has well established himself, particularly in opera at Sadler's Wells.
