Leader, Daniel Melsa
Conductor, Eric FOGG
Of the soloists to be heard today, both in Malaya and in Britain, Bernard Davis , Frank Ford , Joseph Slater , and James Brown have been with the BBC Empire Orchestra since it was formed in December, 1934. David John , son of Augustus John , joined in February this year from the Scottish Orchestra, and was previously in Ireland with the Belfast Wireless Orchestra.
Daniel Melsa has been leader from the beginning, and Eric Fogg spent twelve years at Manchester with the RBC, and rose to be Assistant to Music Director, North Region, before coming to London as Empire Music Director and permanent conductor of the Empire Orchestra.
These are some of the men who make the BBC Empire Orchestra the fine thing it is-who work at hours of the night when all other orchestras are cosily tucked up in bed, and who, since January this year, have also been contributing an hour's music on Wednesdays to the National programme
