Professor F. M. CORNFORD (Professor of Ancient Philosophy in the University of Cambridge) : 'Greece—I, Political Life and Thought'
MODERN Europe is the heir of the ages.
The extent of its indebtedness to
Ancient Greece, Imperial Rome, Judea and the Middle Ages will be examined in three talks on each, supplemented by one talk on the Christian Roman Empire of Constantine. The series begins with an estimate of the legacy of Ancient Greece to modern Europe, originally prepared by Mr. Lowes Dickinson , and, after his recent untimely death, taken over at short notice by Professor Cornford. The first talk deals with the political life and thought of Greece, which was, politically, contemporary Europe in miniature, and philosophically, the source of modern political science. Dr. Edwyn Bevan , O.B.E., Lecturer on-Hellenistic History and Literature at King's College. London, has written an introductory pamphlet to the series, obtainable from the Publications Department, B.B.C., price 4d... 5d. post free.
