Unlike some of the unknown workers, described by Mr. Hugh Thomas, the lavender grower has a permanent market for his produce. Lavender came to England from the shores of the Mediterranean in the days of Elizabeth, and is cultivated commercially in Surrey, Hertfordshire, and Kent. Mr. Thomas describes the work on a lavender farm in Kent, where oil of lavender is distilled and constant skilled attention paid to improving the strain.
