Signorina COSTANZA BAYON and Dr. Decio PETTOELLO : 'On Difficulties in learning Italian'
DR. PETTOELLO has all the typical
Italian's insatiable curiosity. He wants to know the English equivalent for the words and phrases he is so constantly using in his way about this country. Signorina Bayon is kind, and patient; luckily, she speaks English so well that Dr. Pettoello's curiosity is satisfied, and his knowledge of English grows rapidly. Of course, any English-speaking people who happen to listen will learn quite a lot of Italian ; one knows how these foreigners talk ! But Dr. Pettoello will not mind. He will go on slowly but surely mastering a strange language by constant questioning of one who speaks it. It is a very practical way of learning.
