Founded in 1763, the Carmarthen Tabernacle is ono of the leading Churches of the Welsh Baptists. After a very successful sojourn at the Porthtywyll ('The Dark Gate'), which is in the centre of the town, it became necessary in 1811 to build a larger chapel, and the site of the present Tabernacle was chosen. It was at this Church that the first meetings of the Welsh Baptist Union were held in 1867, and the Bible used on that memorable occasion is the Bible that is still used in the Tabernacle pulpit. Here, too, was performed the first marriage in a Dissenting Meeting House, in South Wales in 1837. A Bible was presented by the Church to the bridal pair on that occasion, and the descendants of the marriage, who are active members of the church, still treasure the Bible as a family possession.

An Appeal on behalf of The Cardiff and District Animal Rescue League by Sir Thomas Hughes
The Cardiff and District Animal Rescue League was established ten years ago.
During last year, nearly 6,000 animals and birds were rescued from torture, or delivered from a lingering death, at one or other of the three branches.
The Society, which is in effect the Domestic Animals' 'Waifs and Strays' Society, continues tirelessly to carry on its humane work. Gifts of money or clean rags for use as chloroform cloths are sorely needed and will be gratefully received at [address removed]
