Many a dweller in London's suburbs prefers to take his holiday at home and spend it in his garden, rather than to leave his beds at one of the most interesting periods of the year. Such enthusiastic amateur gardeners will welcome this talk by Mr. Miles, who, besides being a practical gardener of great experience, is Horticultural Lecturer to the Hertfordshire County Council, a well-known writer on gardening, and the author of a very successful book, 'Jottings from a Gardener's Notebook.'

CYCLE-RACING has never become quite so popular in England as it has in some foreign countries, notably France, where it is practically the national sport, and the winner of the Six Jours ranks with the Carpentiers, Borotras and Pellotier d'Oisys in popular esteem. But amongst those who have discovered it, it is regarded as one of the most thrilling sports to watch, and one that demands a high combination of strength and skill. The championships of the N.C.U. are the recognized British titles, and there is always a large and enthusiastic crowd to watch the struggle for them at Herne Hill.

IF you find your repertoire of indoor games getting a shade threadbare— if you find it more and more difficult to find anything new and interesting to do in the wet evenings-then you may get some useful ideas from the series of broadcasts that starts tonight.
This first broadcast will take the form of a Letter Charade or Hidden Sentence, which will relate to a subject well known to all B.B.C. listeners. Clues will be broadcast, but the solution will not be given until The Radio Times of August 26.
