OLD furniture, worked by craftsmen with inherited traditions and a real love for their craft, is a joy to behold and a constant comfort to live with, quite apart from the attraction of investing—or speculating-in it. Mr. Goodwin Smith , who has had great experience of dealing in old furniture, will give some useful advice on how to acquire it on a small purse.

THE most remarkable feature of the present JL cricket season has been the rise to the very first rank of Walter Hammond , the young Gloucester cricketer. Two years ago he first made his mark in county cricket, and in the winter of 1925-6 he did great things with the M.C.C. team in the West Indies; but last year illness kept him out of the game. This summer he went right off with a bang and beat Dr. W. G. Grace 's record by the speed with which he scored his first thousand runs. Since then he has continued his fine form, and received duo recognition by being chosen to play for England against the Rest. All followers of cricket will welcome the chance to hear him talk.
