Happy Memories
Stanford Robinson writes:
Way back in the middle ages of broadcasting in May 1944 I started a series of programmes with the BBC Theatre Orchestra and the BBC Theatre Chorus. We called it Tuesday Serenade and, under this title, we broadcast every Tuesday night for two whole years.
The series has been revived several times, and here we are once again, this time under the title Rhapsody, with the old recipe of a march, a Viennese Waltz, a couple of songs and an operetta selection to round it off. And just for old time's sake we shall use our old signature tune, Valse Serenade, which I had composed years before in 1926, in response to a bet from my brother Eric. This will be my last series after forty-two Years as a conductor on the permanent BBC staff, and I hope it will bring back happy memories to the many People who constantly remind me of the previous programmes. I am leaving in July for a series of concerts in Australia but I hope to be back conducting here again next year.
