Commentaries by John Arlott from the United Services Ground, Portsmouth, and by Rex Alston and Learie Constantine , from Lord's
Learie (L. N.) Constantine was one of the world's greatest all-rounders. He toured this country with the West Indians in 1923, 1928, and 1939. and on his second tour achieved the cricketer's double of 1,000 runs and 100 wickets. He was a fast bowler, a brilliant hitter, and one of the !inest all-round fieldsmen, and his remarks on this season's tour should make good listening.
Talk recorded in 1937 by the late Lord Baden-Powell of Gilwell, O.M.
Fifty years ago last Wednesday Mafeking was relieved. The scenes of rejoicing when the news reached London have become a legend, but what of the siege itself? Lord Baden-Powell was in command of the besieged garrison, and in this talk he describes the extraordinary ruses by which a Boer attack was held off for seven months.
