Appeal on behalf of Yateley Industries for Disabled Girls by THE MARCHIONESS DOURO, President of the Industries
Contributions, preferably by crossed postal order or cheque, will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
Yateley provides training, employment, and accommodation for severely disabled women from all parts of the British Isles. They learn fabric design and hand-block printing, dye mixing, and machining, and after two years' training are equipped to earn their own living, with permanent employment assured by the Industries.

This official-sounding phrase labels a considerable human problem and one of a quite astonishing extent.
The motives of those who disappear and the reasons, including medical and legal ones, which cause a search to be made are two of the subjects which JOAN YORKE discusses with, among others, Salvation Army officers, a lawyer, a doctor, an M.P., and a wife who was herself once ' missing '
