† ROBERT Fox started his newspaper career in Dundee but throughout the 1930s he was in charge of proof-reading on the European editions of the Chicago Tribune and then the New York Herald at their Paris office.
He recalls those days and some of the American writers for whom Paris was then the centre of the literary world.

The hostel known as Zebra House is a voluntary attempt to provide suitable accommodation at reasonable rates for Commonwealth students, of whom there are now 40,000 in this country. The need for such hostels is acute, and Zebra House is appealing for £ 30,000 to extend its work.
