World University Service (formerly International Student Service) has been working since 1920 to help students in need, without discrimination as to race, nationality, religious and political beliefs. It now has national committees in forty-one countries, which, through an International Secretariat in Geneva, raise and spend some £ 300,000 each year. It seeks to promote international friendship by giving financial grants to relieve hardship and by establishing student sanatoria, clinics, hostels, and rest centres.
