Appeal on behalf of the Alliance Club for overseas students, by George Cansdale
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to George Cansdale, [address removed]
The Alliance Club provides hostel accommodation for students from overseas who are staying in London, and is run under the auspices of the Evangelical Alliance. The purpose of the Club is to ensure that students from other lands should find themselves in an atmosphere resembling as far as possible that of a Christian home, instead of becoming victims of undesirable influences.
Those who reside at the Club are, in many cases, men who will be leaders in their own lands on their return. While residents pay for their board and lodging, money is urgently required to meet capital expenditure and heavy depreciation as well as for the purposes of extending the work.
Narrator, Hugh Burden
What is known about this perplexing disease? Why is it that the very advances in public hygiene which have greatly reduced the dangers of many epidemic infections have nevertheless increased those of poliomyelitis? Why is it that the great majority of us are harmlessly infected by it, while a small minority suffer what may be a dreadful and disabling illness? What causes it, and how may it be controlled?
