The Society receives generous help from certain Trusts, local education authorities, and industrial concerns, but this falls far short of covering the total cost of an annual expedition.

There are two branches of the Clavering family in the village. At the Rectory, Mr. Clavering lives with his wife and two daughters, and his son Harry. Clavering Park is the seat of Sir Hugh Clavering.
Hermione, the baronet's wife, has a sister, Julia Brabazon , and between her and Harry Clavering there sprang up a youthful romance, but when Julia saw the chance of a marriage with the rich Lord Ongar, she jilted Harry.
Harry was destined for the Church. but now has decided to become a civil engineer instead. He has arranged to go to Stratton to learn his new profession from Mr. Burton

Recollections of early flying by H. C. Biard
Captain Biard recalls how he first took an aeroplane into the air (by mistake) in 1911, and what it was like to fly in the days when you were lucky if your machine would go two hundred feet into the air and when, if you had a lady passenger, you had to make sure her hat was pinned on firmly.
