Mrs. Arakie, an Anglo-Indian, decided to leave Calcutta and make her home in England. Friends in India warned her that she would find when she arrived here an unpleasant, if unofficial, colour bar, and she reached London full of foreboding for the future. Now, two years later, she describes how her fears have given way to a measured, or—as she prefers to call it-a * coloured ' optimism.
