Mozart began his Serenade for twelve wind instruments and double bass at Munich early in 1781. He completed the work in Vienna that year, shortly before his dismissal from the service of the Archbishop of Salzburg.
The Fantasia in F minor is the second of three pieces written by Mozart during the last two years of his life, for an organ-mechanism inside a clock; this was one of a collection of curiosities belonging to Count Josef Deym. Julian Budden
