Adapted as a serial in twelve episodas by H. Oldfield Box from Anthony Trollope 's novel
' The Prime Minister '
Episode Two Narrator, Noel Iliff
Produced by David H. Godfrey
Ferdinand Lopez is handsome, personable, and generally thought to be a man of means. But his origins are unknown, and when he applies to old Mr. Wharton, a man of wealth and family, for permission to address his beloved daughter Emily, his request is decisively refused. Mr. Wharton rightly suspects him of being an adventurer, and Lopez, in fact, is engaged in heavy speculations, with the object of making a quick fortune. Needing capital for this purpose, he has calculated upon Miss Wharton receiving a substantial dowry.
His confidence of ultimate success in his suit is not shaken by her father's refusal, for he knows that he has already won the young lady's affections. And this Mr. Wharton has now learned from his daughter's own lips.
