Appeal on behalf of the Queen's Institute of District Nursing, by Gladys Young , O.B.E .
Contributions will be gratefully acknowledged and should be addressed to [address removed]
The Queen's Institute is the only national body organising district nurse training, and each year more than six hundred State
Registered Nurses are trained as Queen's Nurses. Other aspects of the Institute's work include the arranging of refresher courses, research into district nursing problems, administration of benevolent funds for sick and retired district nurses, and the arrangement of practical experience in district nursing for nurses from overseas.
Under the National Health Service Act the financial responsibility for providing and maintaining district nurses, formerly undertaken by the voluntary district nuTsing associations, was laid on the local health authorities, with whom the Institute works in close co-operation. It is still, however, an independent voluntary organisation.

Phineas Finn, rhat handsome, pleasant, and brilliantly clever young Irishman, ha.s been elected unopposed to Parliament to represent the Irish borough of Loughshane—to the pride and joy of his adoring mother and sisters. But back in London, an insignificant back-bencher, he begins almost to regret his success. He has no other means but a small allowance from his father, Dr. Finn. And he has only just been called to the English Bar. He is strongly inclined to follow the advice of Mr. Low, his law tutor, to resign from Parliament and devote all his energies to establishing himself as a barrister.
Before making a final decision, he resolves to see his friend Lady Laura Standish, the daughter of the Earl of Brentford, who has always displayed rhe keenest interest in his political ambitions.
