It was certainly a bit of bad luck for the fearless, self-confident Babs to fall downstairs and sprain her ankle just as she was setting out to dance at the village concert. But to have her place taken by Jenny, whom she had always despised, and to learn that Jenny had been the success of the show was more than Babs could stand. For a whole week she refused to speak to Jenny and the atmosphere of the house has been anything but happy. To make matters worse, Jenny has still not found the ideal subject for her scholarship painting.

William PIeeth (cello) Margaret Good (piano) :
Of Beethoven's five sonatas for cello and piano, the third, in A major, has won the greatest favour, by reason of the beauty of its themes and the perfection of its workmanship. The cello announces the opening melody, the piano continuing at the sixth bar. Then. after a brief cadenza, the process is reversed before the music grows more animated. The Scherzo, with its rhythmical ingenuities, is followed by a brief but exquisite Adagio; and this leads into the final Allegro vivace. H.R.
