Bertrand Russell 's first portrait is of a philosopher and mathematician who profoundly influenced the intellectual life of his generation by his books and his teaching. One of these books was ' Principia Mathematical of which Bertrand Russell was joint author. In this talk he recalls the early years of this century when he and Whitehead were collaborating in the preparation of their famous joint work.
