May 27 marks the anniversary of the death in the year 735 of the Venerable Bede, priest and doctor. Bede was born at Jarrow and lived there most of his life. He was a teacher and wrote a history of the English people from the coming of Julius Caesar to his own time. This has become the chief authority for the early history of our country.
