The Black Redstart
Talk by R. S. R. Fitter
It is not often that a new bird decides to settle in this country. It is therefore all the more surprising when it chooses the heart of London in which to nest and bring up its young. That, however, is the astonishing story of the black redstart.

Herbert Murrill 's Second Concerto for cello and orchestra was commissioned by the Henry Wood Concert Society, and first performed at a Henry Wood Birthday P.omenade Concert on March 3, 1951, by Vera Canning , with the BBC Symphony
Orchestra, conducted by Basil Cameron. The work, which is dedicated ' to Pau Casals, in respect and affection,' is largely based on a Catalan tune, ' El Cant dels Ocells ' (' The Song of the Birds '), given to the composer by Casals. Although the Concerto is in one continuous movement, it is divided into clearly defined sections; and the Catalan tune, which is hinted at in the scherzo, appears in full in the slow section.
