Jem is half wishing that he had never touched- the jewelled glove he found in Epping Forest. Already it has earned him a flogging from some men at the ' Robin Hood ' Inn, and but for the Tinker's timely intervention worse might have befallen him. All the same, he cannot help wondering about it and about its mysterious owner, who seems to be a man of some power and importance. Jem knows he is in danger while he still has the glove in his possession, but he is still set on discovering what lies behind the mystery.
