Dramatised as a serial play by H. Oldfield Box
Produced by Wilfrid Grantham
3-' Mary Goes Into Society '
Cast in order of speaking:
The Dean of Brotherton's hope that his daughter Mary may, by her marriage to Lord George Germain, become at some future time the Marchioness of Brotherton, has been gravely diminished, for Lord George's brother, the reigning Marquis, has suddenly married, and is about to return to Manor Cross, after his long exile in Italy. But to this news Mary herself is quite indifferent. At last she has made her escape from her stern sisters-in-law to her own home in London.
The first season starts very happily.
Even Lord George begins to settle down to London life. And then one evening at a dinner party they learn something of a truly starthng nature.
