How the R.A.F. flew arms and supplies to Marshal Tito's partisans under the nose of the occupying enemy. Feature programme by Squadron Leader John Pudney, produced by Leonard Cottrell
This is a dramatised impression by Squadron Leader John Pudney of the work of an R.A.F. unit in Italy which for a long period past has been regularly flying arms and supplies to Marshal Tito's partisans. Some of these airmen have landed in Yugoslavia over a hundred times and they are experts at getting their aircraft down on improvised landing-strips in remote mountain valleys, with the enemy only a few miles away. On the return journey they frequently carry wounded partisans for hospital treatment in Italy.
The author knows these men well and has flown with them; real personalities are concealed behind such names as 'Johnny Lamplighter' and 'Forty-eight Hour Joe', which appear in the programme.
