One of the most attractive Soviet compositions of recent years is Myaskovsky's Violin Concerto, which was first heard in this country in a broadcast on November 21. 1943. Myaskovsky, one of the most respected of the senior Soviet musicians, is a prolific composer of symphonies, but this is his first essay in the field of the violin concerto. David Oystrakh , the Soviet virtuoso, who has recorded the work, wrote of it when it came out in 1938 that ' its appearance enriches not only Soviet violin literature, but the violin literature of the world '.

Roger Livesey will play the title part in tonight's presentation of Ibsen's An Enemy of the People. He played the same part in the Old Vic production in 1939. Keen filmgoers perhaps know him best as General Wynne-Candy in the film The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp.
