This, the second radio play by the writer of naval short stories. Gilbert Hackforth -Jones, tells the story of a young officer's first command. On taking over a destroyer at short notice he identifies his Chief Engineer, a middle-aged reservist, as the man who gave him a sound thrashing as a small boy for stealing apples. The new Captain's first trip is beset with difficulties, 'and the older man's anxiety to help the youngster without his knowledge provides some tense and moving scenes.
