Leslie Mitchell in conversation with people of the day
One of the many respects in which this war differs from the last is the presence in the Army of thousands of young 'serving men, who, manning anti-aircraft guns, and doing other lonely jobs, are cut off for weeks at a time from the general community. Several months ago soldiers from an A.A. Gun Battery asked the BBC whether a padre could broadcast a short service to them. A similar request was later made by a group of Army chaplains. The War Office has seconded the Rev. R. Selby Wright to visit serving men and women in the different Commands, and to give weekly broadcasts in the Forces programme.
